Helen Mirren is by far one of the most endearing and respected actresses of our time, apart from being the living epitome of a star who bravely welcomes aging and getting along with it in her most exquisite gracefulness. Her personal preference of not opting to go under the knife just to stay young and beautiful is respected by many, in fact admired.
Honestly, though, her simple elegance exudes her and it’s more than enough to keep her beauty an unforgettable classic.
Despite her personal stand on plastic surgery, however, she still demonstrated gallantry as she came to the rescue of her colleagues in the movie and TV industry when she told the press about her personal view on Hollywood stars who prefer to keep their youth with a little help from their doctors.
She says, “I don’t think there’s outside pressure. I think it’s the pressure you put on yourself when you look at yourself in the mirror in the morning.”
Mirren, being a star herself, expresses that she absolutely understands how other stars value looking young and fabulous constantly. In fact, she says that ‘people should be allowed to do whatever they want to make themselves happy.’
It’s one uplifting line coming from the Dame herself.
There is one thing, however, that she openly regrets –- her tattoo. Her tattoo seems to be an open reminder of her young ‘rebellious’ days and admits that it was an out-of-the-whim decision from a ‘very, very long time ago’… when she was ‘very, very drunk’.
She said that she decided to get the tattoo because it seemed then to be ‘the most shocking thing’ she could do. However, now, she feels ‘utterly disgusted’ and ‘shocked’ because tattoos have become part of the mainstream, an idea she doesn’t completely welcome. Apparently, having tattoos has become a common statement in our day and has somehow overridden her early purpose of having it – to be set apart from the crowd.
The Dame reveals that the tattoo symbol near the thumb of her left hand was made by an Indian artist. She had it on the road while in Minnesota during a play tour.
Mirren has a collection of prestigious awards to her name, and her exquisite performances in movies make her a regular in the list of nominations. One of her successes is an Oscar as Best Actress for her role in The Queen.
Recently, there have been talks about another Oscar nomination for her role as Sofya Tolstoy, the wife of Leo Tolstoy, in The Last Station.
