Italian Look for Men
Written by: Pauline B. Ferrero
A number of features lately about men’s fashion foresee a revival of Italian fashion for men. Mostly, the themes will revolve around the sleek and sophisticated masculinity, along with the excesses of it.
Of course, most guys will meet this with furrowed foreheads. A cool Italian look for men doesn’t come good without a hefty price tag that’s enough to roll your eyeballs. Well, lose not your hopes. There are many ways to get the look without spending much. Perhaps, you’d find great deals and save some extra still to keep your Valentine date more special.
All you need to do is familiarize yourselves with the basics, and you’ll be ready to hit the racks for styles that give you the look at half, or even way more than half, the runway price.
Italian Look For Men – Shoes
Wear a pair of good shoes. Good means high quality, especially leather.
Italian look is probably synonymous to impeccable dressing. These days when you want to dress to impress, you wouldn’t want things to go wrong even when you’re just out for a stroll in the mall or park.
If you do wish to make heads turn, women for that matter, without having to look dressy with your shoes, then loafers are best. Italian men typically wear loafers, for both comfort and understated elegance and style. Leave the flip-flops to the beach or the house.
For days when you just have to dress up, leather shoes, quite pointed at the tip, create the total look. You don’t really have to have the designer ones, but they really are good though. Find labels that you can afford without compromising the style. Best yet, invest in a few good classic pairs. You won’t get wrong with it.
Italian Look For Men – Classic Designer Pieces
It’s interesting to see a guy walk the street looking fabulous in classic pieces.
Invest in a few good designer clothes. Have some well-fitted linen pants. Linen or cotton tops are also best. Most of all, be particular on the suit. Italian suits are the best. They accentuate your body’s assets and hide those parts you don’t want to emphasize. Some even say investing on a few good pieces lasts you longer than a heap of cheap ones.
Expensive? Don’t be thwarted. Hit the shops for great bargains. Sometimes, good labels offer reasonable discounts. If you’re lucky, you can get discount cards from good shops or boutiques.
No Big Logos
Alright, so you got the good label on you. Don’t flash it like you’re telling the world that you got designer shirt, telling them that you could afford to cash out a few more bucks.
That means, try to do away with big logos or big patches shouting out the label of your shirt. While good shirts do have embroidery on them, they’re not apparent. In other words, look clean and subtle. A few people with keen eyes know good texture between high end clothes and those that are not.
If you do love prints, avoid the flashy and distracting ones. Settle for clean and simple look.
Leave to the billboards the names of designer labels. It’s better that way. You don’t want to look like a big walking ad board, do you?
Neutral Minimalist
When choosing for style, stick to the minimalist look. A good well-tailored piece is enough to pull the look. BUT, don’t forget that the color must be neutral. Loud colors distract the onlookers from the look to the thought of wearing the flashy colors.
You wouldn’t want to turn heads for the wrong reason, right? So, choose the neutral shades of brown, blue, black and white. For casual pants, beige or a similar shade strikes better than white.
Accessories
A man’s best accessory would be his watch. Dress watches complete the look. Invest in a good piece. It may really cost you but you’d thank yourself for having it. It goes a long way. Often, you wouldn’t get wrong wearing it even on casual days.
Cufflinks look cute, but avoid the thick ones unless you rap when you talk and crump when you dance. Try some designs that are sleek and simple. As for filigrees, leave it to women’s jewelries.
Dark sunglasses could be added appeal. As for the hair, keep it neatly combed, brushed up perhaps. The whole point is that you don an understated elegance.
Then, wear the scent that reflects you. Opt for the subtle ones – those that linger long after you have gone away. Strong scents spoil the moment. You don’t want that to happen, especially on a date. Plus, when women like the scent of a man, they tend to keep close, especially when the scent is not too strong. It leaves women looking subtly for the source that’s the stronger concentration. That means it would lead to you!
When you’ve got everything pulled up, you’re ready to walk out the street like an Italian Machiavelli. Remember to be suave without being too fresh, to be flirty without being too provocative.
Classic subtlety is the key for that clean Italian look for men. (Wink!)

Good advice in regards to the Italian push into styling for the American male. Although I am not a fan of the skinny tie and smaller lapel on suit jackets. I do see younger guys starting to make an effort to dress more fashionable and care the way they look.
Maybe because the economy is in the dumper and men are starting to realize that first impressions mean a lot. If the first time someone meets you and sees your jeans well below your belt line and a tee shirt advertising usually a company logo or a designer "tattooed" look then the impression will not last longer then 5 seconds.
Men need a good blog on how to dress and dress well. Keep up the good work!!
